MY YOGA JOURNEY
My first teacher training was in Paros, Greece with YogaWorks in 2017. I chose this company because I stand with their principle of making Yoga available for everyone and their emphasis on alignment. I chose to do it in Greece because I am at my core an adventurer, I love traveling and I wanted to have this experience abroad. I had two of the most renowned traveling Yoga trainers: David Kim and Anna Zorzou. I spent one month in a retreat center with 15 amazing individuals where we learned all aspects of Yoga for 5 hours and practiced Yoga for 3 hours per day 6 days per week. The experience was magical, it pushed me to my limits not only physically but also mentally and spiritually. It showed me what it meant to be a teacher and it clarified my personal motives to become one. I discovered that at my core I want to be of service to others and humanity and Yoga was the perfect way to do so. I will be forever grateful to my first teachers, my colleagues, and Paros, who taught me a whole lot more than Yoga.
I spent 3 months working as an Ayurveda Yoga Therapist at Vaidyas Ayurveda Village in Kerala India in 2019. Learning to incorporate the wisdom of Ayurveda in my teaching has transformed me as a guide. I worked with the most amazing doctors and tradition keepers of the area for which I am deeply grateful. My own healing journey took flight in my time spent in Kerala. My understanding of the subtleties that are very much intrinsic to our humanness deepened and shaped the work I do today.
Mallorca was a teacher in and on its own. I traveled to Mallorca with the intention of doing my Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training with RAMA Institute In January 2020. I had arranged an exchange with a local yoga retreat center in which I would work in the garden 3 days per week in exchange for housing and food as the training was three weeks long and spread out over the span of 6 months. None of this happened as planned as is usually the case in life. I completed the first week in the city of Palma and went off to the retreat center which is located in the mountain area. I spent one month alone on the property, working the garden three times per week and simply being with the mountains, studying and practicing the rest of the time. The mountains of Mallorca are a magical playground, they shape you in ways you can’t even understand until later on in life. I look back to my time living in those mountains and all that it prepared me for with fondness. COVID happened and I had to fly to Ecuador as I was living a nomad lifestyle at the moment and that is where my family lives. In the time of COVID, I continued to self-study all the material of the training and practiced rigorously. I decided I did not need to finish the training. I have one module of official training, and the rest is self-study which continues to evolve every day of my life. I realized through all of my training that Yoga is first and foremost a lifestyle rooted in love.
